VISUAL COMPOSITION
EIGHTH GRADE
Visual Composition is an art class that builds on students’ prior visual art experiences, knowledge, and skills. Students are instructed and encouraged to explore new ways to apply techniques, media/materials and ideas for the creation of their own original artwork. This is achieved through experimentation with a variety of media including artists’ pencils and other various materials for the production of two-dimensional works of art. We will focus most of the semester learning about how to implement elements of art and the principles of design into our artwork (line, color, shape/form, space, texture, and value).
Students will also be introduced to the work of various artists and will engage in conversation for the purpose of studying, evaluating, and interpreting these works to increase their appreciation of visual arts and better understand how art relates to history and culture.
Grades are based on daily participation, planning, homework, and projects. Artistic talent is not a prerequisite for this class nor is it a guarantee of a higher grade. The student’s willingness to experience and acquire new skills, along with good work habits is the best indicator of grade outcome.
