VISUAL ARTS EXPLORATORY
SIXTH GRADE
This course introduces students to the elements of art (line, color, shape/form, space, texture, value) by exposing them to various artists, techniques and media/materials. The major emphasis is on the application of these elements to the students own (original) artwork. This is achieved through the representation of a variety of subjects using varied media for the production of two dimensional works of art.
Students will be introduced to artwork by various artists and will engage in discussions for the purpose of studying, evaluating, and interpreting these works to increase their appreciation of visual arts.
Grades are based on daily participation, planning (sketch journal), projects, and effort. Artistic talent is not a prerequisite for this class nor is it a guarantee for a higher grade. The willingness to experience and acquire new skills, along with good work habits are the best indicator for grade outcome.
