For HGMS students,
The best way to succeed in life is with a good education and a kind heart. All the best!
Wow! I’m speechless....when I started this whole thing, I never actually thought a residing world leader would respond!
I would like to congratulate you on the great work you have done in school. Your teacher, Mr. Bryan Allyn, kindly wrote to me expressing the skills and talents of his students.
As a teacher and Prime Minister, I love to see students thriving in their education and having interests that will have a great impact on our future. I have long believed that youth are not only the leaders of tomorrow, but they are also the leaders of today. The actions that you take now can have a tremendous impact on your community and your country. Through your dedication to education and leadership, I know that you embody that statement.
I hope you continue to work hard in school, and inspire others to create change!
I wore my Hawaiian shirt to school the other day, and one of my students just so happened to have a ukulele in her book bag.
Bill sent a letter that was a really long so I’m not going to post all that on here. But, I was really excited for this one.
I was kinda hoping there would be an invitation to the Illuminati enclosed...perhaps, next time.
Dallas Mavericks (PF). Also known as: “The Dunking Deutschman”, “The Germanator”, "The German Racecar", "The Bavarian Bomber", "German Wunderkind", "Dirk Savage", and "The Big German".
13 x NBA All-star, 2006 & 2007 NBA MVP, 2010 & 2011 NBA Champ.
Although Neil was too busy to write a letter back, he was extremely kind and sent a care package with an autographed photo, 2 books, pamphlets, and a poster for HGMS students. I’ve passed these materials along to the science teachers at that school...but I’m keeping the autograph!
Dear Holly Grove Middle School Students:
I recently received a letter from someone who cares for you a great deal and like you to achieve your goals in school, learning, and life. I would like to encourage you to work hard in school and always do your best. The rewards will benefit you tremendously. Do not allow outside pressures to distract you from your positive goals in life. Always remember to be respectful to your parents, teachers and classmates. My basketball players would never have the opportunity to play for me if they had first not done well in school. In other words, setting your priorities is taking care of first things first. In your case, going to school and doing as well as you possibly can is tremendously important. In fact, my players participate in a program called “Take a Shot at Reading”. They go to elementary schools all over Durham and talk about the importance of receiving a high school diploma and going on to college.
I also believe that sports can be a tremendous outlet for young men and women to develop persistence, discipline, and teamwork or a spirit of cooperation with other people.
Take care and remember to always try your best!
Everybody has their heroes when they are growing up. Todd McFarlane was definitely mine. Actually, if it wasn’t for being obsessed with his artwork as a kid...I’m not sure I would be an artist today. So, when I sat down to write my very first letter it was extremely easy to figure out who I wanted to address it to. Todd is one of the most influential comic book artists/writers of all times, and as you can see in the video...he’s also a SUPER nice guy.
<Confession: When I received this video last night, my inner 12 year old immediately began dancing around the living room.>

Mark Henn is the lead illustrator for Walt Disney Animation Studios. He is the man behind movies like The Lion King, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Pocahontas, Beauty and the Beast, Lilo and Stitch, and many many more.
To my friends at Holly Grove Middle School, be persistent! I was turned down 3 times by the studio! I continued to work hard and prayed that I was in god’s plan. I was, and this summer will mark 38 years working for Disney! God is good!
The Iron Man!!!
Again, no letter but I’m just happy he sent something back! Saving the world makes for a busy schedule.
The 2nd greatest quarterback of all-time (my opinion is biased), and proprietor of Papa Johns Pizzas...Mr. Payton Manning.
Payton didn’t write a letter back, but he did send me this 8x10 autographed photo!
The Fonz!! - The creator & living definition of being cool, jumper of sharks, and possibly the nicest man in America wrote:
Dear Mr. Allyn’s class,
You are ALL powerful. You have greatness inside of you. And you are ALL very smart.

The NFL’s very own diabolical genius, and greatest coach of all-time!
I try to bridge the gap between my classes and those of my colleagues who teach “core” subjects, but mostly with practice in writing. Which is why I started an initiative in my classes that encourages my students to write letters to famous people for practice (as well as for extra credit in my class). To inspire them, I too have been writing letters. I received this in the mail today.
A huge shout out to @obeygiant for sending over some stickers for my art students! #shepardfairey
For those of you that don’t know who Shepard Fairey is, he is considered by many to be the Andy Warhol of this generation. He is the artist behind the Obama Hope poster back in 2008, a founding father of the booming street art scene, and the Obey clothing line. You can learn more about him in the new “Obey Giant” documentary on Hulu.
